1 Killed In 7-Vehicle Crash On Route 9: Prosecutor

One person was killed in a seven-vehicle crash on Route 9 in Freehold Township, authorities said.

The crash occurred at about 10:30 a.m.  Tuesday, Dec. 5 northbound near Route 9's intersection with Route 33.

A spokesman with the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office confirmed the fatality, but the victim's name had not been released.

All lanes were closed in both directions for several hours during an investigation, according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation.

Witnesses told news12.com that a driver failed to stop and slammed into vehicles waiting at a red light. 

The crash is under investigation by members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and the Freehold Township Police Department.
